About Painting

Interior painting for walls, ceilings, trim and doors, plus touch ups and small exterior jobs.

Painting providers prepare and paint rooms, hallways, trim, doors and ceilings, and handle touch ups where walls are scuffed or patched.
Some also take on fences, railings and other small exterior surfaces.
The finish depends on preparation, so tell your provider about the condition of the walls.

What this service may include

Covering floors and furniture and taping edges
Filling small holes and sanding rough spots
Priming where the surface needs it
Painting walls, ceilings, trim, doors and baseboards
Cleaning up and removing tape and coverings

Common add ons and related requests

Accent walls or a second colour
Painting cabinets, radiators or built in shelving
Removing wallpaper before painting
Small exterior surfaces such as a fence, gate or railing

How to prepare

Choose your colours and finish, and buy the paint if you are supplying it
Move small furniture and take pictures off the walls
Point out any patches, stains or damage
Plan for the room to be out of use while coats dry

Supplies and equipment

Providers usually bring brushes, rollers, trays, tape and drop cloths
Paint and primer are normally supplied by you unless the listing says otherwise
Ask your provider how much paint to buy for the rooms you have in mind

What affects time and price

The number of rooms and the height of the walls and ceilings
How much preparation the surfaces need
Dark to light colour changes that need extra coats
Trim, doors and detailed surfaces, which take longer than walls
Your provider's published hourly rate or package price

Common questions

Should I buy the paint myself?

Usually yes, unless your provider's listing includes materials. Your provider can suggest how much you need once they know the rooms and the finish you want.

How many coats will it take?

Most walls take two coats. Big colour changes, fresh plaster or patched areas can need primer or an extra coat. Your provider will tell you what they expect after seeing the surfaces and confirms the price with you before starting.

Can I stay in the home while the work is done?

Yes. Rooms are usually painted one at a time, and your provider will let you know when each one can be used again.
