About Assembly

Help putting together flat pack furniture, shelving, beds, desks and other items that arrive in a box.

Assembly providers build furniture and household items from the parts and instructions in the box, in the room where you want them.
Most jobs cover one or a few pieces, from a bookcase to a full wardrobe.
Each provider publishes their own rates and availability, so compare listings and pick the one that fits your job.

What this service may include

Unboxing and checking the parts against the instructions
Building beds, wardrobes, desks, tables, chairs and shelving
Tightening and adjusting doors, drawers and hinges once built
Placing the finished piece where you want it in the room
Clearing the packaging into your bins or a pile you choose

Common add ons and related requests

Anchoring tall furniture to the wall where the piece is designed for it
Taking apart an old piece before the new one goes in
Assembling several items in one visit
Small adjustments to a piece that was built earlier

Usually not included

Moving furniture between homes
Repairing broken or missing parts, unless your provider offers it
Electrical or plumbing connections on an appliance
Structural work such as cutting into walls

How to prepare

Keep the boxes and instructions together and unopened if you can
Clear floor space in the room where the piece will live
Check that the piece fits through doorways and stairs
Tell your provider the brand, model and how many items you have

Supplies and equipment

Providers usually bring their own hand tools and a drill
The parts, fixings and instructions come with your furniture
Wall anchors for heavy pieces may be an extra item; ask your provider

What affects time and price

How many pieces you have and how many parts each one has
Whether the instructions are clear and the parts are complete
Stairs, tight spaces or a room far from the entrance
Extra requests such as wall anchoring or taking apart old furniture
Your provider's published hourly rate or package price

Common questions

Do I need to be home during the assembly?

Most customers stay home so they can confirm where each piece goes and answer questions about the parts. Agree the plan with your provider when you book.

What if a part is missing or damaged?

Tell your provider as soon as you notice. Many builds can continue around a missing part while you contact the retailer for a replacement. Your provider will let you know what is possible.

How is the price worked out?

Each provider publishes their own rates. Some charge by the hour and some offer a package for common items. Your provider confirms the price with you before the visit.
